How we rank the best GEO tools
Our methodology: what we test, how we weigh engine coverage against actionability, and why price-to-coverage matters more than feature counts.
Every ranking on this site follows the same playbook. This post documents it, so you can judge our judgments.
What we evaluate
- Engine coverage — How many AI surfaces are tracked (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, AI Overviews), and whether the data comes from real front-end results or API approximations.
- Actionability — A visibility score alone doesn't change anything. Tools that turn data into specific fixes rank higher.
- Price-to-coverage — A $19/mo tool covering six engines can beat a $300/mo tool covering eight. We rank for value, not feature counts.
- Trustworthiness — Transparent methodology, screenshot evidence, and honest marketing all count.
What moves a tool up or down
We re-review the list as the market moves. A tool climbs when it ships real capability (new engines, an action layer, better evidence) and slides when pricing rises without new value, or when its data can't be verified.
What we don't do
- We don't accept payment for placement.
- We don't rank tools we haven't personally run or extensively researched.
- We don't pretend one tool fits everyone — that's what the alternatives pages are for.
